CALL FOR ENTRY

The Large Size Watercolor International Exhibition, Mexico-City 2016 has two primary objectives:
  1. Locate the watercolor in the context of contemporary art on a par with other medias, regardless of technical or support differences.
  2. Change concepts derived from traditional small format and stereotypical themes that are attributed to the media of watercolor.
As co-organizers, sponsors and promoters of this event provide their services the institutions of IWS-Ecuador and IWS-Switzerland.
This exhibition is organized by the group of Independent Visual Artists "Der Weltraum" in collaboration with the National Museum of Watercolor in Mexico City and the Gallery "ArteEnTi".
The exhibition will consist in a selection of 48-50 works, depending on size and orientation.

HOST

National Museum of Watercolor, Alfredo Guati Rojo in Coyoacan, Mexico City.

From February 28th to March 20, 2016.

PARTICIPATION

  1. The competition is open to all artists over 18 years old and from any nationality and any country.
    Only original works produced mainly in transparent watercolor on paper are accepted. Other medias of water as gouache, acrylic and egg tempera, if used, must be in conjunction with transparent watercolor and not exceed 20%.
  2. Maximum age of the work: three years.
    No digital media, photography and graphic reproduction are accepted, as well as original or image-based works published in any medium.
  3. DIMENSIONS: Minimum 70x100 cm, maximum 120x150 cm; frameless measures
Only artworks in one piece (no diptychs or polyptychs) are accepted.
Up to two artworks per participant.

PROCEDURE

  1. Pay registration fee: $ 650 pesos for Mexicans. $ 45 USD for the rest of the world. Via Paypal, Bank transfer or Western Union or directly in the Museum (Non refundable). To receive more instructions on payment writes: expolargesize@gmail.com.
  2. Send registration form and a digital photo of the work, JPG, RGB format, resolution of 300 dpi, minimum 2200 pixels on the longer side, without modification to expolargesize@gmail.com. Stating the following information: name_surname_title_measures of the work (height by width). Example: William_Turner_Blue Rigi_80x120cm. Subject of e-mail: Full name and country of the participant.

DEADLINE

November 15, 2015, 24:00 (Central Time, Mexico).

AWARDS

Award of Excellence: $ 1'000.- US Dollars (non-acquisition)
Six Honorable Mentions with medal.
Certificates for all participants of the exhibition and catalog.

JURY

A jury appointed by the organizers will select the artworks for the Large Size, International Watercolor Exhibition, Mexico-City 2016 and after verification of accepted paintings, assign the awards.

SELECTED WORKS

  • 15-20 paintings of INVITED ARTISTS
  • 30-35 paintings of ARTISTS participating by selection

VIRTUAL GALLERY

All photos of the works sent by e-mail will be exhibited in the virtual gallery of the event until March 20, 2016.

FRAMING

Is borne by the organizers. The participants must submit their paintings unframed and unmatted - special arrangements must be made directly with the organizers.

CALENDAR

  • Publication of the notice: August 28th, 2015
  • Application deadline: November 15th, 2015, 24:00 (Central Time, Mexico)
  • Selection Process: November 16th - 20th, 2015
  • Sending provincial or abroad: November 22nd to December 8th, 2015
  • Direct delivery to the National Museum: January 8th to 16th, 2016, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Verification of paintings: January 19th to 23rd, 2016
  • Assignment of awards:  February 25th to 27th, 2016
  • Opening and Award Ceremony: February 28th, 2016, at noon 12:00
  • Closing: March 20th, 2016

SALES

Most of the works will be for sale. After selection no price changes are accepted. If you sell, the organizers will retain 16% tax plus 20% commission.

COPYRIGHT

The organizer has the right to display, investigate, photograph and video recording anyone of the participating works for promotional purposes. A catalog will be printed, and each selected and invited artist will receive one.

INSURANCE

Each participating artist can take out insurance for his work. Sending entry per email the artist release to the organizers and staff of the National Museum of Watercolor "Alfredo Guati Rojo" from all responsibility for loss or damage. By participating in this event the artist accepts all points of the call. The organizers have the utmost care in handling them while they are within its facilities.
